Jackpocket is the first third-party app that allows users to buy official U.S. State Lottery tickets. The app is available in 14 states and the District of Columbia.

Objective

Increase app downloads and lottery ticket sales among users in states where Jackpocket operates.

Task

 The key challenge was ensuring precise geographic and age segmentation in the advertising. Jackpocket operates only in states where it holds a license. In adddition, each state has different age restrictions for purchasing lottery tickets.  For example, the minimum age in Arizona is 21, while in Texas it’s 18. This required highly accurate targeting to stay compliant with legal regulations.

Implementation

We started by meticulously configuring the targeting to ensure ads were shown only in states where Jackpocket is licensed. This helped us avoid wasting ad spend on irrelevant traffic from regions where the app couldn't operate. We also adjusted age targeting according to the legal requirements in each of the 14 authorized states to ensure compliance with local laws.

Through detailed audience analysis, we found that the average Jackpocket user is 36 years old, with the primary age range being 18 to 40. Using this information, we refined our audience segmentation and crafted tailored ad creatives to better resonate with users most likely to buy lottery tickets.

Extensive testing allowed us to fine-tune the campaigns, focusing on the most conversion-prone segments. This not only boosted app installations but also motivated new users to purchase lottery tickets through the app.

Result

  • 100,000 new app downloads

  • 2,462 lottery ticket purchases by new users

Conclusion

By leveraging our expertise in geo- and age-targeted advertising, we successfully attracted high-quality users to Jackpocket. These users were not only downloading the app but actively engaging by purchasing lottery tickets.
